Try the live, one-on-one online art class difference

17-year-old Aubbrey Runcorn has lessons in her bedroom, fitting them in week by week to accomodate her busy, ever changing class schedule.

So you want to learn to draw and paint.  But you can't make it to a regular art class.  The Roaming Studio's live online drawing and painting workshops offer all the advantages of a brick-and-mortar classroom -  live instruction with a teacher demonstrating and  watching while you work - with none of the disadvantages.  You have control over the curriculum, the timing and scheduling, even the pacing of the class.  All this, from the comfort of home.

I work with only 15 private students or semi-private groups so you are sure to get the attention you need.  E-mail leah@theroamingstudio.com for a free consultation and sample class.

8-year-old Lola, of Pacifica, California during her online painting classes.  (That's me on the I-Pad) :)

How it works

Each week, we meet using Skype, with me live in my studio in Portland, Oregon (or wherever I happen to be), and you live in yours, wherever you live in the world.  I develop a curriculum based on your interests and experience level (read more about the curriculum below), and then create projects that we'll work on together during our classtime.  I'll also assign and respond to homework.  It's a great way to fit drawing and painting into your life, on your terms.

All you need is a fast internet connection, a computer, a webcam, and a desire to learn how to draw and paint!  I work with all ages, my youngest student is six, my oldest is 73.

Design Your Own Curriculum

At The Roaming Studio, you have a say in how your art curriculum is designed.  You can choose, for example, to work with one of the subjects and one of the mediums listed at left (e.g. pencil and faces).  Or you could work with all  subjects, and one medium.  Or try the Sampler Package listed below, and try all mediums and all subjects to learn which areas you'd like to explore more deeply.

I guarantee that any way you choose to study it, you'll both learn the basic skills, from perspective to shading to gesture drawing, and begin to discover your own unique, artistic voice.

Study one or all of the following Subjects:

Flora (flowers, trees)

Fauna (animals)

Still Life (fruit, cups, flowers etc.)

Faces
Figure Drawing
Landscapes (could include rural, city or sea scapes)

Study one or all of the following Mediums:

Pencil

Charcoal

Pen and Ink (bamboo pen and brush)

Pastels
Acrylic Paint
Oil Paint

Watercolours
